Superior Mesenteric Venous Thrombosis - The Impact of Inflammation and Hypercoagulability

Superior mesenteric vein thrombosis (SMVT) often presents with abdominal pain out of proportion to physical exam findings but can also be asymptomatic. If left untreated, the cause bowel ischemia, multisystem organ failure, and eventually death. Therefore, while rare, superior should considered as a differential diagnosis especially in cases inflammation hypercoagulability. Since SMVT present pain, common reason for ED admission, or show up asymptomatically on CT, rapid anticoagulant administration is crucial successful management. In this case report, 78-year-old woman cramping bloody loose stools. The was made using CT. This report reviews CT image hypercoagulability work- up. Management included anticoagulants both emergency department hematology follow-up.
